Growwiners on the Canadian Prairies

DEAN KREUTZER has just entered into the wonderful world of grape growing. His parents wished they had called him "Berry", because every summer as a child, he'd be found in the saskatoon berry or raspberry patch. He is currently taking horticulture studies at the University of Saskatchewan, while still working fulltime as a computer programmer. Dean and wife Sylvia just purchased 40 acres of land, overlooking the Qu'Appelle valley, near Regina, Saskatchewan, in Zone 2b-3. The initial list of possible cultivars available for planting seemed very limited, due to the harsh winter climate. He is very interested in doing some grape breeding to create some very hardy grape cultivars suitable for table, juice and wine that require no winter protection. It's a tough goal, but hopefully he has enough ambition and patience to achieve it.

Initially, he is planting a lot of cultivars, but not in a large quantity. This is due basically to a desire to do breeding, and not necessarily doing anything commercial at this time. Also, he doesn't have a web-site yet....gee a computer programmer without a website! Shocking!!!!!! ...... Email Dean Kreutzer
